Merger Mania Strikes Again! VOTE NO!
UFCW 8 Golden State & President Jacques Loveall
Ask you to vote on another merger! This time with UFCW Locals 45,181, & 188...
supposedly "to join forces"
What president Loveall isn’t telling us is...
This year 2008 is an election year for union officers and by forcing this merger down members throats members of UFCW local 8 are once again being deprived of their"legal" rights as union members to be involved in union elections! If you vote yes for this merger you will be voting on all current officers and executive members to keep their positions in power as well as their high paid salaries! Once again members will be screwed out of any union democracy! Are we going to tolerate this abuse of power again?
Tell Loveall "We Want an Election for officers"
Has previous mergers helped? Did you get a better contract after the last merger? Who benefits? What benefits? Why should we believe them again?
The tradition of the Loveall’s is Concessions! Fewer Benefits! Lower Wages! Pensions in Danger! Disrespect all day on the job!
Don’t fall for this scam again! VOTE NO! Send in your ballot post marked before February 8th Mark "X" in the NO box! Please don’t deface the ballot, but vote a simple NO to let Loveall know your’re tired of his sales pitch! Maybe he can go get a real job!
Make your voice heard loud & clear with a "NO VOTE" on this merger!
Download this flyer and get into your stores: http://groceryworkers.org/merger-mania-strikes-again.pdf/download
No Worries
Denis is right the more people that get involed and get these flyers in the stores the better chance we have on voting this merger down.
Silence will only be the death of our futures!
Vote against merger?
Why even vote? It will be accepted by a majority of the membership. Haven't you learned by now? Or better yet, when will you learn? The only way to get the scoundrels (Loveall et al) kicked out of UFCW 8 is to decertify this corrupt union. You don't have to continue on like you're slaves in Egypt. None of them have ever been elected to be your representatives, so vote all them out through desertification. It is as simple as that. Can you imagine the panic seen in Jacques' face knowing that members were going around with desertification forms getting members to vote them out of being their representatives?
What the Loveal's do with a union merger is legal and desertification of a union is also legal. Do something strategic that makes them scramble. You can't wait for an election of union officers to vote them out because members will never have one. But each and every member of this corrupt union has the power to decertify this union. When will you learn?
Giddy up!
But then what? do you think these companies will just treat these workers great when the union is desertified? I agree with you the only to get to the Loveall's would be through a desertification campaign but then members must have a plan "B"
What is your suggestion for a plan "B"?
My would be organize with the IWW. They have low dues and they are very aggressive when it comes to dealing with corporate. That's my idea now let's hear yours!
Decertify is the answer
Plan B is to choose new representatives for the members. This can be done by organizing a new members union that deals directly with the company's. A union where members oversee their representatives. A union where the President is elected by the members. What's important for this kind of a challenge is to make sure there are more members, such as Giddy up, willing to think outside of the box, and also willing to think outside of the store. Hey, unions being decertified by the members are not that uncommon. You need the support of many members willing to go to the stores and get all of the "Giddy up's" eager to sign the petition. Do some research.
Nothing is easy. It wasn't easy for me to run eight miles this morning. If I didn't take the initiative to leave my house, I couldn't have even started the run. The Loveall's go to bed every night believing that members aren't willing to leave their stores to start this process. But if the members ever did, nights for the Loveall's would undoubtedly become sleepless.
Seeing these deceitful bums being booted out of their overpaid positions would be the icing on the cake. In fact, just that thought alone should be enough to get hundreds of members, with decertification petitions in their hands, out to all of the stores that would send a strong "wake up" message to the Loveall's that their beauty sleep is over. It would also send a strong message to the Loveall's that the members are sick and tired of the never ending BS and plan on finishing this run!
Possible Plan B- there are some company's that have company sponsored Unions that compensate their employees equal to and sometimes even better than any UFCW. In fact, you don't even have to pay union dues. There is a contract pertaining to pay rates, grievancs, etc. This is something that can be negotiated with the company's. It is not that far fetched. But it really comes down to this final point: How much do the members really want to get rid of the Loveall's and organize a union that represents their best interests?
Posting "hate merger, hate no elections, hate Loveall's" gets kind of old and boring to read! I hate putting on my running shoes every morning. However, once I get out the door there isn't anything that is going to prevent me from finishing my run!
Just like the Lovealls another merge with little time to let the members know. If the members aren't told how to vote they will follow how the reps tell them to vote. I am in the process of printing up some flyers as we speek and try to get them out ASP but could use some help I can't cover all of the locals.
