Local 8 Members/Stewards We Need Your Help!

by RankNfile last modified 2007-11-13 12:49

We have recently had an ex 588 shop steward contact us, we were told allegedly back in the years between 1995 to 1997 at least one of the 588 union reps went around to certain stewards asking them to fill out and mail multiple ballots. We have the name of this particular union rep(now a grievance director for local 8) but we need more people to come forward with similar experiences/stories.

If you were a shop steward or member of local 588/8 between 1995 and the present and were ever asked by any staff person of local 588/8 to fill out and send multiple ballots for a contract ratification or election/merger please contact us at...

info@groceryworkers.org or reform588@yahoo.com

Thank you for your help!

I know that Section 1.2.2 in the Bay Contract states:

Work of employees expressly excluded from the provions hereof by agreement of parties.

In other words, there are side letters in the contract that are not in the contract.

I know UFCW local 8 pulled out a side letter in Doug Slaydon's arbitration stating the the company (Safeway) did not have to provide any progressive disipline before a termination.

We are trying to get clerks to get copies of their contacts and all the side letters and other agreements between the parties. It is our right to these by Federal and and the Feds will sue LUFCW Local 8 if they do not comply.

The same Federal office also audits the books of unions so UFCW Local 8 is not going to mess with them.

Please request a copy and pass it on to us. We will help you with the letters to the union and the Government. We need to know.

The era of secrecy and lack of service must in in this union.

Feds don't audit anything

If the feds you are referring to in your comment is the U.S. Department of Labor, then I can assure you that these lazy bums don't do anything. I saw a LM-2 filed by a Southern Cal Local where it was obvious that they didn't include all of the paid union staff and representatives on this report. There wasn't anything to show that the goofballs at the Department of Labor caught this discrepancy or "audited" it.

Hey, the U.S. Department of Labor is just an inept organization, paid for by "us" taxpayers, where employees are allowed to walk around all day long, without any eyeballs in their heads, while enjoying the smell of farts, which enter their office building and coming from the Secretary of Labor herself.

But then again, if your palms were greased daily by people like the Loveall's, then maybe your eyeballs would fall out of your head and you would be content with enjoying smelly farts too!
